EEG - Renewable energy community
Join the energy revolution: Produce locally, share profits with renewable energy communities!
What are renewable energy communities?
EEGs make it possible: generating, trading and using renewable energy collectively, locally and regionally.

EEG in detail
01
Local EEG
In a local EEG, the participants are connected to each other in the low-voltage grid (grid levels 6 and 7). This means that all participants are connected to the same transformer station.
03
Diverse
In addition to electricity, heat and gas can also be traded, exchanged and used in EEGs. The energy must always come from renewable sources!
02
Regional EEG
In the regional EEG, the participants are connected to each other via the medium-voltage busbar in the transformer station (grid levels 4 to 7). This means that they must all be connected to the same substation.
04
Economical
There are financial incentives for the energy consumed in the EEG:
reduced grid fees
elimination of the renewable energy subsidy
Exemption from the electricity tax
The benefits
You get fair and stable prices
Prices are set jointly in the EEG. Fair, stable prices for producers and consumers are the goal and the aspiration.
In addition, there are savings on grid fees:
Local EEG: reduction of 57%
Regional EEG: reduction of 64% at grid levels 4 & 5, reduction of 28% at grid levels 6 & 7
Know where the electricity comes from!
Just like shopping at the regional farmers' market, electricity can also be sourced from the region. Your membership of an EEG supports regional value creation!
Together instead of on your own
A renewable energy community strengthens the sense of community and cohesion in the region!
Awareness & participation
An EEG raises awareness of efficient energy use and sustainability and thus benefits not only the members, but also our environment!
Energy transition
EEGs help to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and make faster progress towards the energy transition.
Your path to EEG
Convinced of the many advantages? Then the only question that remains is whether you want to join an existing EEG or set up one yourself. No matter what you decide, our intuitive platform will guide you step by step on your way to becoming an energy community. Automated processes, pre-filled forms and lots of explanations and information make it as easy as possible for you. Here is a brief overview of what you need to do to participate and set up.

Information on the close-range query
Do you want to join an EEG or set one up yourself? Then you absolutely need to know which part of the electricity grid your system is connected to. In other words, which transformer station and which substation your metering point is connected to. You can get this information from your grid operator (note: this is not the energy supplier!). By law, this information must be provided within 14 days.
Many grid operators in Austria now offer simple methods for obtaining this information:

1. local area information via maps

Some providers use online maps on which you can immediately see which parts of the network belong to the same local or regional area. For an EEG, this quickly shows whether all members are in the same zone and also facilitates the search for new members.

2. local area information via Quick-Check query

Some grid operators also offer a so-called quick check. Here you simply enter the metering point number and receive a code that shows which transformer station and which substation is responsible for this metering point. This makes it easy to check whether all planned metering points are in the same area.

What is the meter point number?
The metering point number is used to clearly allocate electricity consumption. It is a unique number throughout the EU. In Austria, it always begins with the abbreviation AT, followed by 31 digits.
The meter point number can be found on your electricity provider's annual bill or on your grid usage contract with your grid provider. Please note: The meter point number is not the meter number of the electricity meter!
