How the BEG works

01

Supraregional

Citizens' energy communities can cover several concession areas. This means that members can be supplied by different network operators. This makes the energy community flexible and comprehensive.

02

Diverse

Both individuals and legal entities can be members of a BEG. In contrast to an EEG, electricity companies and large companies can also participate, as long as they do not have a controlling majority in the community.

03

Power-centric

Citizens' energy communities are only allowed to generate, store, consume and sell electrical energy.

04

Transparent

As all grid levels are in use and the energy can be shared across Austria, the grid fees will be in full use.

The benefits

You get fair and stable prices

In the BEG, prices are set jointly. Fair and stable prices for producers and consumers are the aim and the aspiration.

Energy transition

BEGs will help to reduce the dependency on fossil fuels and to make faster progress in the energy system transformation.

Larger capacities

There are no local or regional restrictions in the BEG. This makes it easy to integrate large power plants.

Awareness & Participation

A BEG can raise awareness of energy efficiency and sustainability and encourage participation in a decentralised electricity market.

Know where your electricity comes from!

If you want to know where your electricity is coming from, then a BEG is the right solution for you.
